4 Test requirements 4.1 General When a manufacturer of a p lastics packaging or IBC wa nt s to change to a new grade of high den sity pol yethylene for its manufacture , test r esults to the following requirements may be u sed in conjunction with a selective testing procedure to r educe the amount of design type testing of the design type with the new polyethylene grade. As a mi nimum requirement , a test with water as the test medium in accordance with EN ISO 16495 shall be car ri ed out for the packag ing design type man ufac tu red from t he new polyethylene grade. The test re q uirements in 4.2 to 4.6 shall be met in the com p arative testing of the pol yethylene grade wit h ex is ting approvals , (Material A) , and the re p lacement polyethylene grade , (Material 8). The comparative testing ofthe polyethylene grades to the procedures defined in 7.1 to 7.5 shall be carried ou t concurrently in a single laborato ry. For the procedures 7.2 to 7.5 , test sh eets (see 5.2) compression moulded by the same mould type (e.g. using a positive mould or semi-positive mould) shall be used. 4.2 Melt mass-flow rate (MFR) When tested in accordance with 7.1 th e value ofmelt mass-flow rate shall be within the following limits: 70 % MFR M aterial A < MFR Material 8 < 130 % MFR Material A. NOTE The determination of melt mass-flow rate is solely intended as a classification test for the polyethylene grade and does not relate to any ofthe tests fo r packaging described in EN ISO 13274 or EN I SO 16495.
4 .5 E nvironm e ntal s tr e ss crack re s is tance When tested in accordance w ith 7.4 the environmental st r ess crack res i stance by full notch creep test (FNCT) shall be: – FNCT Mat e rial 8 % F NC T Material A (FNCTA) NOTE The determination of environmental stress crack resistance by FN CT is intended to relate to the performance of packaging and IBCs from the polyethylene grades , such as those tested in accordance with EN (SO 1649 5:2013 , Annex (Stacking test when carried out containing standard liquids wetting solution , acetic acid and n-butyl acetate as described in EN ISO 13274:2013 , Table 1 . 4.6 Molecul a r degr a d a tion When tested in accordance with 7.5 , the mo l ecular degradation by melt mass-flow rate (MFR) in crease method shall be: – MFR increase Material 8 (Oxa) $ 120 % MFR i ncrease Material A (OXA) , where the i nitial melt mass-flow rates (of non-immers ed specimens) of Ma ter ial A and Mat eria l 8 are defined as 100 in each case. The result is det er mined from the comparison of p ercentage i ncrease of MFR af te r immersio n against the MFR of non-immersed samples.
